Mazda has done it again. The 2016 Mazda MX-5 has won the 2016 World Car of the Year and the 2016 World Car Design of the Year. The 2016 Mazda MX-5, also known as the Mazda Roadster—quite the fitting name— is the second Mazda to win World Car of the Year.

Considering the judging panel consists of 73 journalists from 23 different countries, the World Car of the Year award is not a title to take lightly. The award was first established in 2004 and has been judging exceptional cars all across the world ever since.

What makes the Mazda MX-5 worthy of these two prestigious awards? Well, for starters, the MX-5 comes with SKYACTIV Technology that allows for a much greater fuel efficiency than any other conventional engine on the market, and the KODO design offers some of the most advanced aerodynamics seen today, among many other new and innovative technological advances. The MX-5 was also redesigned to be lighter and more efficient than previous Mazda models. Not to mention that this little roadster is a blast to drive with its two-door coupe or convertible design.

The 2016 Mazda MX-5 has won over 30 awards so far and is sure to win more. This is the first Japanese vehicle to win the World Car Design of the Year award, and it's more than clear why. Masahiro Moro, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, says that "Driving Matters" is always emphasized in Mazda's advertising and “we prove it in our cars.” When looking at the 2016 Mazda MX-5, we couldn’t agree more.
