As a three-row crossover SUV, the 2016 Mazda CX-9 beckons efficient family buyers who look for seating space, cargo space, and practicality. Yet as a Mazda, it goes above and beyond practicality, boasting a powerful KODO design, a luxurious new Signature trim level, and tons of available features. The safety suite Mazda calls i-Activesense is especially worth looking into.

i-Activesense is all about preventing collisions with a wide scope of external sensors, and has ten available features in total. For better vision, there’s the adaptive front-lighting system that adjusts the angle of the headlights to fit the curving of the road, and high beam control.

To mind the distance between other drivers, distance recognition support, radar cruise control, smart brake support with collision warning, and city smart brake all monitor the car’s speed and relative distance to other obstacles and give warnings or apply emergency brakes if a collision is imminent. Finally, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and lane departure warning with additional lane keep assist make turning and driving safer.

The new CX-9 also uses the i-Active AWD system first seen in the compact CX-5 to monitor road conditions and make driving in rough weather easier. With all the features of i-Activesense, the 2016 Mazda CX-9 is one of the smartest, safest rides on the market.
