Parents Magazine and Edmunds.com named the Mazda CX-5 as the “Best Midsize Crossover” on their list of 10 Best Family Cars of 2017.

Value, performance, safety, and family-friendly features all played a role in earning the Mazda CX-5 its top spot.

The car starts at an MSRP of $24,045 and includes Blind-Spot Monitoring, Smart Brake Support, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control, which were added to help keep passengers safe.

According to the Mazda North American Operations vehicle line manager for the CX-5, Tetsu Nakazawa, family was kept in mind when designing the vehicle.

“For 2017, we completely redesigned the CX-5 and made more family-friendly improvements,” said Nakazawa. “We even engineered the rear doors to open wider from the previous model year to allow for easier child-seat loading and unloading.”

The vehicle is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G engine, capable of producing 187 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. In addition, Mazda promises a smoother ride as well as a hushed cabin in their new 2017 CX-5.

Not only is the CX-5 receiving attention in the form of awards, but the SUV was also Mazda’s best-selling vehicle in 2016 by nearly 17,000 units.

The CX-5 is also no stranger to praise. Ever since the first-generation CX-5 model was released in 2012, the vehicle has been known for it’s quality, craftsmanship, and elegant design; however, Mazda is clearly appreciative of the award.

“Being recognized by Parents magazine and Edmunds is an honor,” said Nakazawa, “and it attests to our commitment of making a great vehicle that fits a variety of lifestyles.”

The 2017 CX-5 can now be purchased in Mazda dealerships, including O’Daniel Mazda.
