In a high competition industries, it’s not every day a business celebrates milestone anniversaries. Satisfying the economy, customers, manufactures, etc. isn’t an easy job or a trait to be quickly mastered. It’s incredible how Mazda Motor Corporation can make it look so easy while celebrating their 50 year anniversary as an established company.
The secret ingredient to success? Perseverance. In 1920, a combination of new ideas and hard work came together to create the idea of Mazda Motor Corporation. Known only for small passenger cars and work trucks, Mazda continued in the market, but was not a high competition company. So in 1961, it was time to revamp.
Moving into a new territory of the sought-after sports cars, Mazda needed a secret weapon and set out to do the unthinkable: create the world’s most impressive engine. This wasn’t any engine; this was the rotary engine, a complex but powerful technology that would make the company soar. The challenge? None had successfully made this engine run.
The company brought in top of the line engineers to break the streak. As with starting any new challenge, there were trials and errors. Through testing and correcting, with time and determination, Mazda brought their final product with a running rotary engine to the 1964 Tokyo Motor Show and after a swarm of praise and desired buyers, the company put their car on the market on May 30, 1967: Mazda Cosmo Sport 110S.
The roaring engine, smooth ride, and stylish looks of Mazda products to follow kept the company as a high competitor in the market even still today. Even with success and positive business, Mazda works to achieve the next level up. Launching a new complex engine in 2008, SKYACTIV, Mazda proves that there are no limits to what one can accomplish with perseverance.
When Mazda revamped 50 years ago, they didn’t just create a cool new engine, they created a message that nothing is impossible. A message they will continue to spread for years to come. Congratulations Mazda Motor Corporation and thank you for your place in the market!
