Introducing the all-new Mazda3 TCR race car, an exhilarating addition to the Mazda motorsports program. The seamless style of this motor car will leave you breathless, and the competition in the rearview mirror.
This striking vehicle is scheduled to compete in 36 global TCR-sanctioned championships as early as January 2020 for the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. It will begin on the racetrack with the four-hour endurance challenge that is part of the Rolex 24 at the Daytona weekend of racing.
Designers of Mazda Design America poured endless effort towards specifically engineering the sleek features of the Mazda3 TCR race car. The turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine produces a hefty 350 horsepower, which is nearly double that of its hatchback predecessor. It is these juiced up capabilities that will give it a fighting chance in the upcoming TCR championships.
Aesthetically, the Mazda3 TCR is an all-around lustrous and clean-lined race car that signals the promise of smooth speed as soon as the engine is started. One can’t help but notice the similarities of this confident car with the 2019 Mazda3 Hatchback—which it was designed based on. Additionally, the Mazda3 TCR features the most up-to-date iteration of the brand’s signature “Kodo-Soul of Motion design language.” This aerodynamic race car comes with distinct elements including enlarged fender flares, massive rear wing, prominent rear diffuser, chunky front splitter, and a single exhaust tip positioned exactly in the middle. The Mazda3 TCR utilizes a Bilstein or optional Öhlins dampers and has 18-inch Rays wheels along with Michelin Pilot tires.
All of this embodies the vision and power performance that the Mazda3 TCR race car has to offer.
Ready for any road-related challenge, the TCR is sure to spark the energy within you. The front-wheel-drive with paddle-shifted six-speed transmission not only comfortably reaches 150 mph, but also efficiently stops with Brembo brakes. “The Mazda3 features the outstanding design and engineering that Mazda is known for, and because of that, it is a fantastic foundation for our new Mazda3 TCR,” says John Doonan, Director, Mazda Motorsports, “We are eagerly anticipating success for the Mazda3 TCR in IMSA, SRO, Americas, and in TCR championships around the world.”
The future of the Mazda3 TCR is undoubtedly one with great potential. Be sure to keep an eye out for its first track appearance on January 26th at the Daytona International Speedway.
