The 2021 Mazda CX-30 has been awarded the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) most honorable award, the 2020 TOP SAFETY PICK+. As an industry leader with more TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards than any other auto brand, this is a well-deserved feat for Mazda. The 2021 CX-30 joins the 2021 Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback, Mazda6, CX-3, CX-5, and CX-9 as the recipients of the 2020 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award.

Every year, the IIHS announces additions to its list of vehicles that have earned its highest award. A vehicle’s performance in six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations and further analysis deems whether that vehicle will earn a spot on the TOP SAFETY PICK+ list. Funded by the insurance industry, the IIHS is an independent, nongovernmental safety-testing organization.

The CX-30 earned good ratings in all six crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests. Additionally, it achieved superior ratings for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention. Furthermore, the 2021 CX-30 is equipped with standard good-rated headlights. These safety features are what make the auto brand the safest on the market.

“With safety a top priority for Mazda, we are proud to have the CX-30 earn the 2020 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award,” said Mazda North American Operations President Jeff Guyton. “Mazda is committed to providing the most advanced safety technologies in all of our vehicles. We continually strive to challenge ourselves to create products and technologies that provide our customers a confident and joyful driving experience.”

Mazda has borrowed and elevated some of its past vehicles’ best features when developing the 2021 CX-30. It borrows its styling, interior design, and powertrain from the Mazda 3 sedan and hatchback, with a slightly lifted suspension and a more modern offering. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine provides adequate power with either front- or all-wheel drive. The interior cabin speaks of comfort comparable to its most luxurious competitors. Mazda additionally provides a plethora of standard driver-assistance features, furthering one of its greatest assets for those on the road – ensuring driver safety.
