Redefining the qualities of a superb compact SUV, the Mazda CX-5 is easily turning heads. With exceptional design, driving dynamics, and value, it has been praised time and again. For 2021, the CX-5 has been named among Car and Driver’s 10Best winners, marking the 4th time in a row now.

The 10Best award recognizes the smartest, most entertaining cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans on the market—and the CX-5 competed across all categories to earn this merit. To qualify for a 10Best award, an automobile must be new, substantially changed from the prior model year or be a returning winner from the previous year’s competition. Its base price must also be less than $90,000, and be on sale in the U.S. by Jan. 21, 2021.

Fifty-seven vehicles were scrutinized and evaluated by Car and Driver staff within a two-week testing period, before voting for the winners. It comes as no surprise that Mazda’s compact SUV has made a grand impression.

In October 2021, the CX-5 2021 model year reached the best sales record as drivers around the country were mesmerized by its characteristics and made sure they buy one for themselves. It boasts of premium features that come in standard such as the i-Activsense safety features such as blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning with lane-keep assist.

Inside, a new 10.25-inch center display, the largest screen ever incorporated in a CX-5 showcases the newest Mazda Connect Infotainment interface. Not to mention, it adds capabilities for in-car Wi-Fi hotspot and Mazda Connected Services. With available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, occupants can enjoy a sophisticated experience as they enjoy seamless integration with their smartphone.

In terms of power, the CX-5 doesn’t fall short. The standard trim comes with a four-cylinder Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter engine that can deliver 187 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. of torque. Upper trims will further impress you with up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb. ft. of torque thanks to the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine and premium 93 octane fuel. The regular 87 octane fuel can produce 227 horsepower and 310 lb. ft. of torque. CX-5 also boasts of a quick-shifting six-speed automatic transmission with sport and manual-shift modes, front-wheel drive, and G-Vectoring Control Plus. All-wheel drive with off-road traction assist is available across all trims, as well, ensuring a great adventure even on rough terrains.

One of the newest highlights of the CX-5 2021 model is the Carbon Edition that shares similar features with the CX-5 Touring with Touring Preferred SV Package. Class and timelessness are spelled out on the exterior with exclusive styling with Polymetal Gray paint, 19-inch black metallic aluminum alloy wheels, and gloss black door mirrors. The interior features red leather seats, and special interior trim.

Mazda’s CX-5 is an all-rounder. Presenting the right combination of good looks, handling, and price, it is polished to compete with other brands. It is the crossover that you have to recommend to friends and family members.
