Innovation is at the forefront for Mazda after it recently announced its first-ever battery-electric vehicle to the US market. Beginning in fall 2021 with California dealerships, the brand’s new electric MX-30 is a dynamic driver, beautifully designed, and optimized to be more efficient than ever before.
With an output of 144 horsepower and a maximum torque of 200 lb.-ft., the MX-30’s front-wheel drive electric motor provides a smooth and connected feeling on the road. It features an electric motor and a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. Mazda’s all-new electrification technology includes a new powertrain along with enhancements to the Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture, which create consistently dynamic driving and increased confidence for the driver in any condition. The latest technologies provide peace of mind, such as enhanced i-Activsense safety features to cover a wider range of safety scenarios.
Additionally, Mazda has essentially eliminated the worry for a lack of charging stations with EV’s by allowing for versatility in charging. MX-30 owners can charge at home or while traveling around town as Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) is partnering with ChargePoint to offer charging solutions for MX-30 owners within the United States. Drivers will have access to public Level 2 and DC fast charging solutions, so there is no need to worry if you forgot to charge up the night before. It won’t take up too much of your time either; the 35.5 kWh battery takes a mere 36 minutes to charge to 80% using DC fast charging.
“Mazda is preparing for the fast-changing US market demands by taking a multi-solution approach to electrification,” Jeff Guyton, President of Mazda North American Operations, said. “The battery-powered MX-30 will begin the introduction of additional electrified models, including a series plug-in hybrid with a rotary generator for MX-30, a plug-in hybrid for our new large platform, and a traditional hybrid for our new American-made crossover.”
The MX-30 sports a contemporary design, showcasing the evolution of Mazda’s signature Kodo design philosophy as new generations are added to lineups. Inside, you will find a new floating center console featuring a multi-function commander knob and shortcut buttons that allow drivers to safely operate the Mazda Connect infotainment system. In front of this layout is a seven-inch touchscreen, flanked on both sides by tactile push buttons to operate the climate control. The interior also features door grips made from cork, one of the most highly renewable and eco-friendly resources on the market.
With a design that is distinctly a Mazda and a powertrain like never before, the new electric MX-30 is the future of electric vehicles and marks the first step in Mazda’s multi-solution electrification strategy.
