As one of the fastest-growing automakers in the North American market, Mazda has big plans for its growth in the coming years. To fuel this growth, it is strategically expanding in several areas, two of which include its new SUV lineup as well as upgraded dealer facilities.
Its new SUVs consist of three models: the CX-50, the CX-70, and the CX-90. The CX-50 is a midsize crossover sharing its platform with Mazda’s latest generation CX-30 and Mazda3 models. Designed for active consumers with an outdoor lifestyle, the CX-50 will include AWD capability. It will begin production January 2022 at Mazda and Toyota’s joint venture factory (Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, USA, Inc.) in Huntsville, Alabama.
The CX-70 and CX-90 will include Mazda’s new longitudinal architecture with inline six-cylinder and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The CX-90 is ideal for buyers with families, as it has a three-row layout, while the CX-70 is more mid-sized at two rows. Mazda has made their i-Activ AWD system standard across their entire CX (SUV) lineup, providing drivers with extra stability and driving enjoyment.
Apart from their new lineup of SUVs, Mazda has taken on other initiatives to win the hearts of the North American market. In 2014, they announced their new "Retail Evolution" plan for dealerships, featuring an open floor plan for greater transparency and an enhanced customer experience. Recently, Mazda opened their 200th dealership of this sort in San Antonio, Texas, reflecting its growth in the U.S. market.
Originally one of the smaller foreign automakers in the American market, Mazda has set its sights on victory in recent years. Offering premium vehicles and features at a mass-market price is what Mazda does best, and its strategy seems to be winning the hearts of American buyers. With its newly designed SUVs and improved dealership experience, Mazda is showing that it intends to compete with the biggest players in the game. Prospective buyers with an eye for quality and innovation should keep Mazda on their shortlist of new cars.
