The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has once again highlighted Mazda's commitment to safety with its recent announcement. The all-new Mazda CX-70 and its Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) variant have both secured the coveted 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK award. This recognition is a testament to Mazda's dedication to integrating top-tier safety features across its vehicle lineup.

Mazda has long been a leader in automotive safety, and the new CX-70 models exemplify this commitment. Built on the same robust platform as the highly acclaimed CX-90 and CX-90 PHEV, the CX-70 and CX-70 PHEV inherit advanced safety systems that have already proven their effectiveness. These models excel in critical safety evaluations, including the small overlap and original moderate overlap front crash tests. They also achieve high marks in the updated side impact crash test, demonstrating their superior crashworthiness.

One of the key factors in earning the TOP SAFETY PICK award is the quality of headlights across all trim levels. The CX-70 models offer headlights rated as acceptable or good, ensuring optimal visibility and safety for drivers and pedestrians alike. Additionally, these vehicles feature effective pedestrian front crash prevention systems, which further enhance their safety credentials.

The CX-70's success in securing the TOP SAFETY PICK award is a continuation of Mazda's impressive safety record. Earlier this year, five Mazda vehicles, including the Mazda3 Sedan, Mazda3 Hatchback, CX-30, CX-50 (built after August 2023), and CX-90, received the highest IIHS honor, the 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award. The CX-90 PHEV also earned the TOP SAFETY PICK and is slated for further testing to potentially upgrade its rating to the TOP SAFETY PICK+.

Tom Donnelly, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, expressed pride in the CX-70 models' achievements, attributing the success to the tireless efforts of Mazda's engineers. He emphasized the company's ongoing pursuit of the highest safety standards and expressed confidence in the CX-70 and CX-70 PHEV's potential to achieve the TOP SAFETY PICK+ following additional testing.

The Mazda CX-70 and CX-70 PHEV's recognition by the IIHS underscores Mazda's unwavering dedication to safety, ensuring that every journey is as secure as it is enjoyable. This achievement solidifies Mazda's position as a leader in automotive safety, providing peace of mind to drivers and passengers alike.
