The Mazda CX-5 has once again demonstrated its commitment to safety and innovation, earning the highest rating in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) newest crash test. This prestigious accolade highlights Mazda's dedication to continuous improvement and the well-being of its customers.
The IIHS recently updated its moderate front overlap crash test, which now includes a second dummy to better assess rear occupant protection. The test simulates a scenario where 40 percent of the driver's side front end of a vehicle impacts a stationary barrier at 40 mph. This test aims to replicate the forces experienced in a frontal offset crash between two vehicles.
Mazda’s proactive approach to safety is evident in the 2023-2024 Mazda CX-5, which has now earned a good rating in the updated IIHS test. This significant achievement reflects Mazda’s commitment to enhancing vehicle safety and protecting its passengers. By adding rear seat belt pretensioners and load limiters, Mazda has substantially reduced the forces experienced by belted rear occupants during a crash. These improvements have been applied to the CX-5 and all new Mazda vehicles, reinforcing the company’s dedication to passenger safety.
The results speak for themselves. The 2023-2024 Mazda CX-5 now proudly holds a good rating in the IIHS updated moderate front overlap test, standing alongside other top-rated models like the 2024 Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback, CX-30, CX-90, and 2023-2024 CX-50. This achievement underscores Mazda's relentless pursuit of safety excellence. The good rating is the highest level of performance measured by the IIHS.
